Badminton

Badminton is a racket sport which is either played by two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles). The opposing players take a position on either side of a net which dividesĀ a rectangular court into two matching sections. A player scores points by striking the shuttlecock wit their racket so it passes over the top of the net and lands in their opponents half court. Their opponent must attempt to return the shuttle back over the net before it lands. Each side may only strike the shuttle once in an attempt to pass the ball back to their opponents court.

Since 1992, badminton has been included as an Olympic sport with men's and women's singles; men's and women's doubles, and a mixed doubles event. At this high level the participants have a high level of fitness; players need aerobic stamina, agility , strength, speed and precision. It is also a highly technical sport needing good motor co-ordination and a unique development of sophisticated racket movements.
